Right the Wrongs on 20 August 2019
Two women
from the All African Women’s Group
(AAWG) have appeal hearings on 20th August. Appeals are our chance
to overturn sexist and racist Home Office refusals which ignore the
particular problems we face as women to disbelieve us and turn us
down. Together with Black Women’s
Rape Action Project and Women Against Rape,
AAWG is inviting people to join vigils outside to defend our human rights
against Home Office injustice.
Ms Mohammed’s appeal for Family Reunion with her son
9am outside Taylor House,
Roseberry Avenue, Islington EC1R 4QU
There’s
still time to sign and send
a postcard to the Home Secretary asking for Ms Mohammed’s son to be
allowed to join his mum and sister in the UK. He bravely defended his
lesbian mum and helped his sister escape forced child marriage in
Pakistan. Now he’s destitute and in hiding because his life is in
danger.
No
hostile environment at Ms Mohammed’s appeal! Supporters at Reclaim the
Power brandish their signed postcards calling for the Home Office to allow
her right to family reunion.
Anisa’s Asylum Appeal
9am outside York House, 2/3 Dukes
Green Avenue, Feltham, Middlesex TW14 OLS.
Anisa
had to wait an outrageous nine years for the Home Office to decide
on her asylum claim. She has been forced
to live in limbo, struggling to survive in slum housing on just £37 a
week. She lives in fear of reprisals from the people who targeted her
family even here in the UK, which is why she can’t use her full name. The
Home Office ignored evidence documenting the dangers she faced as a lone
young woman, including because of her “political opinion” about women’s
rights. Anisa says, “I want the Home Office to be held to account
for how it has made me and many others suffer, as if our lives count for
nothing.”
